Teaching Philosophy
No matter what age you start on a musical journey, it is my goal to help you down whatever path you choose to take. I give the tools that a student needs to pursue their passion to their greatest potential.
I create personalized lesson plans based on the ability and goals of every student. For some the goal is broad: Get better at x instrument. For others it is far more focused: Get into the Texas Longhorn Band (Yes that was a recent students main goal and he made it). And for even others it is make it into x conservatory.
At the end of any students time with me, I have a few goals:
1) Never forget why you like or picked your instrument - too many students in the world quit their instrument simply because the fun stopped on the instrument, so I never want to lose that part of music for any student.
2) Give tools to improve - the saying goes “Practice makes Perfect”, but that isn’t always the case - most times students really need help with what to practice and how to practice. I always try to give tools to students via exercises, music, etudes, and more that allow the student to improve at their own pace, and to learn how to teach themselves (since I can only be there to help them once a week at most).
3) Let the student mature as a player/person - music and brass playing usually starts at a fairly young age (4th or 5th grade), so there is more to playing and the instrument than just making good sound. I aim to teach skills that can help the student in all facets of their lives, from time management, focusing skills, and more. Music is a great place to learn to work with others to create something only a group can.
